Bishop's Lydeard is a traditional village and civil parish in Somerset, sitting about five miles west of Taunton on the fringe between the rolling Quantock Hills and the low-lying Somerset Levels. The village has a long history reflected in its medieval parish church and in its name, which points to historic ecclesiastical ownership; a notable modern attraction is the heritage station on the West Somerset Railway, a popular steam link to Minehead.
Today Bishop's Lydeard mixes rural agriculture with commuter living for nearby towns, and supports a busy village life - primary school, village hall, pubs, clubs and seasonal events are all active. Its position makes it a handy base for walking and cycling into the surrounding countryside while still feeling like a close-knit community rather than a dormitory suburb.
