North Petherton is a small town and civil parish in Somerset, set on the northern edge of the Somerset Levels close to the River Parrett and a few miles east of Bridgwater. The historic core around St Mary’s Church and several medieval buildings hints at its long history - it was already recorded in the Domesday survey - and the settlement grew as a local market and river‑trade centre before modern roads and the nearby M5 turned it into a predominantly residential and light‑industrial hub.
There is a strong community feel, with sports clubs, village halls and active conservation interest in the surrounding floodplain and wetlands, while the local economy mixes agriculture and small businesses with commuters travelling to Bridgwater and Taunton. The landscape of reclaimed marsh, drainage rhynes and wildlife gives the parish a distinct character that blends rural heritage with suburban living.
