Stoke sub Hamdon is a compact village and civil parish in Somerset, England, set on the wooded slopes below Ham Hill. The surrounding ridge and nearby Ham Hill Country Park give dramatic views and a strong local identity: many of the cottages and public buildings are built of warm, honey-coloured Hamstone quarried from the hill, and the Iron Age hillfort on the summit is a prominent landmark.
The village has a long history, with the remains of a medieval priory and an attractive historic core, and today functions as a rural community with agriculture alongside people who commute to nearby Yeovil and other towns. A lively village life centres on local clubs, a village hall and small shops, while conservation rules and community interest keep its character largely intact, making it a popular spot for walkers and heritage visitors exploring the surrounding countryside and neighbouring villages such as Montacute.
