Street is a large Somerset village on the southern edge of the Somerset Levels, close to the Mendip Hills and the course of the River Brue, with the historic town of Glastonbury and the cathedral city of Wells within easy reach. The flat, agricultural landscape gives way quickly to walking country on the Mendips, so it’s popular with people who want both lowland countryside and nearby hilltop views.
The settlement’s modern character was shaped by the C&J Clark shoe business, whose presence spawned local industry, housing and the factory-outlet Clarks Village; you’ll also find education and arts hubs such as Strode College and Strode Theatre. Today it blends retail and light industry with active community life, from sports clubs to local events, and retains a strong sense of local identity rooted in its industrial and rural past.
