Wellington is a market town and civil parish in Somerset, England, lying about seven miles west of Taunton at the foot of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and beside the River Tone. The location gives a pleasing mix of rolling hill scenery and lowland river meadows, popular for countryside walks and local farming.
Historically a medieval market centre, the town later supported small-scale textile and bootmaking trades and still retains a compact high street of independent shops, cafés and a regular market. A local landmark is the prominent Wellington Monument on the hill above the town, erected to celebrate the victories of the Duke of Wellington, and the community combines that heritage with a lively local arts scene and easy access to surrounding rural attractions.
