The Sands is a narrow riverside stretch alongside the River Wey at the edge of Guildford town centre in Surrey, England. It forms part of the popular riverside walk network that links the historic High Street and castle area with quieter green meadows; tree-lined paths, benches and lawns make it a favoured spot for walkers, dog owners and families enjoying the water and wildlife.
Historically the river and its adjacent meadows supported milling and local trade via the Wey Navigation, and that industrial past still shapes the character of the waterfront. Today the area plays a modest but important role in the town’s social and leisure life, sitting close to independent cafés, riverside pubs and cultural venues and helping to draw visitors into the centre for events, informal recreation and riverside relaxation.
