Merstham

Merstham is a village and suburb in the borough of Reigate and Banstead in north‑east Surrey, England, sitting at the foot of the North Downs and close to Redhill and Reigate. It’s within easy commuting distance of London and served by a local railway station; the nearby Merstham Tunnel is a notable piece of Victorian engineering on the route towards Brighton.

Historically an agricultural settlement that expanded in the 19th century with chalk quarrying and brick and lime works, Merstham still shows traces of that industrial past in disused pits and local stonework. Today it’s a mixed community of Victorian terraces and later suburban housing, with a compact village centre, conservation areas and regular community activities, combining access to green spaces on the North Downs with a largely commuter‑based local economy.
