Pangbourne sits on the north bank of the River Thames in West Berkshire, where the little River Pang joins the main river opposite Whitchurch-on-Thames. The village lies on the edge of the North Wessex Downs, so you get a mix of attractive riverside walks, boating and popular pubs and cafés along the towpath, with countryside within easy reach.
Historically it has a centuries‑old parish church and a collection of Georgian and Victorian buildings, and is home to Pangbourne College, an independent school with maritime roots. The local economy is a mix of small shops, schools and commuters - regular trains run to Reading and London - while community life features rowing and sailing, village events and easy access to nearby country houses such as Basildon Park, giving it a quietly prosperous Thames‑side character.
