Codford is a rural parish in Wiltshire tucked into the valley of the River Wylye on the southern edge of Salisbury Plain, and traditionally consists of the neighbouring settlements of Codford St Mary and Codford St Peter. The landscape of chalk downland, water meadows and historic cottages gives it a distinctly downland character, with farming, equestrian activity and small-scale tourism important to the local economy.
The parish has a long history, with ancient churches and a strong First World War association when troops trained on the Plain, remembered today in local memorials. Social life centres on a village hall, pub and community events, and the combined mix of heritage, countryside and a close-knit population keeps it feeling characterfully rural rather than suburban.
