Tidworth sits on the eastern edge of Wiltshire, close to the county boundary with Hampshire, and overlooks the rolling chalk of Salisbury Plain. The parish combines suburban streets and neighbourhoods with expanses of downland and a scattering of Bronze Age barrows and other archaeological features typical of the Plain, putting it within easy reach of wider historic landscapes such as Stonehenge and the market town of Andover.
Much of Tidworth’s character comes from its long relationship with the British Army: large barracks and parade grounds built in the 19th and 20th centuries transformed a small rural village into a garrison town, so the local economy and social life remain oriented around service families, shops, schools and community facilities. Historic buildings like Tedworth House and the regimented street pattern of the camp sit alongside more recent housing, giving Tidworth a distinct military heritage blended with everyday civilian life.
