Loddon is an electoral ward in the borough of Wokingham in Berkshire, taking its name from the winding River Loddon that threads through a low-lying valley of meadows and floodplain. The area combines suburban neighbourhoods with pockets of countryside and green corridors, and sits within easy commuting distance of Reading and onward transport to London, so many residents commute while enjoying a semi-rural feel.
Historically the river valley supported mills and small agricultural settlements, and that rural heritage is still visible in parish churches, village centres and older buildings. Today the ward has a community-orientated character with local shops, pubs, schools, sports clubs and riverside paths used for walking, angling and wildlife-watching, alongside active residents’ groups concerned with managing flood risk and protecting green space.
