South Lake is a ward within the borough of Wokingham in Berkshire, forming part of the southern suburban area of the town. It is predominantly residential, with a mix of post‑war and later housing, local shops, schools and pockets of green space, and benefits from good commuter links via Wokingham railway station and nearby road connections to Reading and London.
As Wokingham expanded through the 20th century the ward developed a largely family‑oriented character; community life centres on residents’ associations, parish halls and local events, and local councillors represent the area on Wokingham Borough Council. It typifies many Thames Valley suburbs - relatively prosperous and commuter‑focused, but with a mix of housing tenure and ongoing local interest in protecting green corridors and improving neighbourhood facilities.
