Leith

Leith (electoral ward) sits on the northern waterfront of the City of Edinburgh, Scotland, covering the historic port, residential streets and the regenerating docklands. The ward includes the busy quayside and redevelopment around Ocean Terminal - home to the preserved Royal Yacht Britannia - and combines Victorian tenements with newer flats and commercial space, giving a mix of old maritime character and modern waterfront living.

Historically an independent burgh with deep shipbuilding and trading roots until its incorporation into the City of Edinburgh in 1920, Leith is known for a lively food and arts scene clustered around The Shore, annual community events and the green expanse of Leith Links. Socially and economically it remains diverse: ongoing regeneration has brought investment and rising prices, but long-standing communities and social housing keep a distinct local identity and occasional tensions about development and change.
