Crossford is a small, largely residential village in west Fife, sitting a few miles west of Dunfermline and within easy commuting distance of Edinburgh. It retains a compact historic core of stone cottages and a modest high street, set against rolling farmland and pockets of woodland that make it popular with walkers and cyclists; the surrounding landscape gives a very rural feel despite good road links to larger towns and the Firth of Forth estuary.
Historically the village grew from agricultural and small-scale local trades and today functions largely as a commuter and community hub, with a village hall, local pubs and clubs that help keep an active social life. Conservation protections around its older buildings and a programme of local events sustain a strong sense of place, while the proximity to bigger centres means residents often mix village living with jobs and services in nearby towns and the capital.
