The small villages of Torryburn and Newmills sit on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in west Fife, Scotland, with pleasant coastal views towards Edinburgh and the Forth crossings. Historically the area was shaped by a tiny harbour, lime kilns and coal workings from the 18th and 19th centuries, and you can still find traces of that industrial past in the shoreline and fieldscapes.
Nowadays they are quiet, close‑knit communities popular with commuters to Dunfermline and Edinburgh, valued for coastal walks, wildlife and a strong local sense of heritage; community groups keep the village history alive and the settlement remains a peaceful slice of West Fife life.
