Coatbridge South is the southern portion of the town of Coatbridge in North Lanarkshire, made up largely of post‑war and Victorian residential neighbourhoods with pockets of former heavy industry. The area sits close to the green expanse of Drumpellier Country Park and is crossed by the historic Monkland Canal, while good road and rail links provide easy access to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Locally the ward carries the strong industrial heritage of Coatbridge - once a centre for ironworks and coal - remembered in institutions such as the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life and visible in ongoing regeneration of former industrial sites. Socially it remains a predominantly working‑class community with active local groups, small‑scale retail and public services, and a mix of challenges and civic pride as regeneration continues.
