The village of Bothwell in South Lanarkshire sits on the south bank of the River Clyde, roughly eight miles south‑east of Glasgow. It has a pleasant, conservation‑area character with Georgian and Victorian sandstone villas, riverside walks and tree‑lined streets, which combine to give a village feel despite its popularity as a commuter suburb.
Its most striking landmark is the largely ruined 13th‑century Bothwell Castle, and the nearby Bothwell Bridge is remembered for the 1679 Covenanter battle. Today the area mixes quiet residential neighbourhoods, a small high street of independent shops and cafes, local schools and leisure facilities, making it sought after by families and professionals who travel into Glasgow.
