Inchmahome is a small, largely wooded island sitting in the Lake of Menteith in Stirling, best known for the roofless remains of the 13th‑century Augustinian priory founded by Walter Comyn. Its quiet shoreline and woodland attract birdwatchers and boaters, and the island is reached by short boat trips from the nearby Port of Menteith, making it a peaceful-but-easily-accessible spot in the middle of the loch.
Beyond its attractive setting, Inchmahome has strong historic resonance: the priory was a refuge for children of the nobility and famously sheltered the young Mary, Queen of Scots in 1547. Today the cloister, chapter house and graves give a tangible sense of medieval Scotland, and the island contributes to the local tourism economy while remaining a valued natural and cultural haven.
