The electoral ward of Pyle, Kenfig Hill and Cefn Cribwr (electoral ward) sits in the western part of Bridgend county borough in south Wales, straddling coastal sands and low-lying farmland. The area is notable for its proximity to the Kenfig National Nature Reserve, with its sweeping dunes and the partly buried ruin of Kenfig Castle, while Pyle lies close to key transport links such as the M4 and A48, with rail and road making Cardiff and Swansea commutable.
Historically the communities grew around coal and iron - Cefn Cribwr (electoral ward) still shows industrial archaeology from old ironworks - but today they are largely residential with pockets of light industry, retail and active community projects restoring heritage and landscapes. There’s a strong local community spirit, a bilingual Welsh–English character, plenty of outdoor recreation around the reserve and country parks, and ongoing conservation work to protect rare flora such as the fen orchid.
