The villages of Sarn, Tondu and Bryncethin sit just north of Bridgend in south‑west Wales, occupying a semi‑rural fringe between lowland farmland and the old South Wales coalfield. Their position gives a mix of easy commuting into nearby towns and cities alongside green spaces and the feel of a tightly knit local community.
Their identity was largely shaped by 19th‑ and 20th‑century industry - ironworks, collieries and associated housing left a durable imprint - but much of the heavy industry has been cleared or repurposed, with former sites turned into light industrial estates, housing and public open space. Today the area combines local clubs, schools and community facilities with modest commercial activity, and still shows interesting traces of its industrial past amid an otherwise residential landscape.
