Bettws is a village and community in the county borough of Bridgend in south Wales, lying on the fringe of town and countryside and within easy reach of the M4 corridor and the south Wales coast. Its name comes from the Welsh/Old English for a prayer-house, reflecting its long history as a small settlement in the historic county of Glamorgan.
Like many villages in the area, Bettws grew through 19th- and 20th-century industry and mining and today mixes post‑industrial housing with commuter links into nearby towns. Community life centres on local clubs, chapels and the rugby side, while waves of regeneration have aimed to improve facilities and tackle social and economic challenges so the village remains a distinct local hub between Bridgend town and the surrounding rural landscape.
