Deri is a small village in the county borough of Caerphilly in Wales, set in the Rhymney Valley close to the larger town of Bargoed and forming part of the community of Gelligaer. It lies within easy commuting distance of Cardiff, making it a quiet residential spot with good links to the surrounding valleys.
Originally established as a coal‑mining settlement during the expansion of the South Wales Coalfield in the 19th century, Deri still shows the terraces and community layout of that era. Since the pit closures it has become largely residential and commuter‑focused, but retains a strong local identity through community groups, chapels and a rugby tradition, with easy access to the hills and walking routes that characterise the post‑industrial valleys.
