Rhymney is a former industrial town in the upper Rhymney Valley within the county borough of Caerphilly, Wales, set against rough upland moorland with the River Rhymney running through the valley. It grew rapidly in the 19th century around ironworks and deep-coal mining, and the landscape still bears the scars and features of that industrial past alongside patches of open countryside that lead towards the Brecon Beacons.
Today Rhymney retains strong community traditions - miners’ institutes, choirs and local festivals - while facing the familiar post‑industrial mix of regeneration efforts, local services and commuting to nearby centres such as Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil. The town is served by the Rhymney rail line and remains a compact social hub for the surrounding rural and former-mining communities.
