Penmaenmawr is a compact coastal town in Conwy, Wales, sitting beneath the distinctive headland of Penmaen Mawr and the foothills of the Carneddau. It has a traditional promenade, a mix of sandy and pebbly beach, a railway station on the North Wales coast line and easy road access via the A55, making it a handy base for walkers heading into Snowdonia as well as for day-trippers to the coast.
The town’s character was forged by 19th‑century granite quarrying - stone from the quarries was used for docks and street setts in places such as Liverpool - and traces of that industrial past sit alongside Victorian seaside architecture. Today the local economy blends tourism, small businesses and commuting, with an active community life, local clubs and a continuing presence of Welsh cultural traditions.
