Criccieth is a small coastal town on the southern edge of the Llyn Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales, perched on a headland between two sandy beaches and overlooked by the dramatic ruins of a 13th‑century castle built by Llywelyn the Great. Its Victorian promenade, compact harbour and sweeping views over Cardigan Bay give it the character of a traditional seaside resort while the Wales Coast Path runs straight through the town.
Today the local economy leans on tourism, holiday homes and small-scale fishing alongside surrounding agriculture, and the community remains strongly Welsh-speaking with local festivals, independent shops and coastal walks; it also serves as a convenient base for visiting nearby towns such as Porthmadog and Pwllheli or exploring the wider coastal and rural landscape.
