Amlwch sits on the northern coast of the Isle of Anglesey in Wales, centred on a historic harbour that was built to export copper during the late 18th-century boom. The nearby Parys Mountain gives the area a striking, ochre-streaked landscape and plenty of industrial archaeology - open adits, slag heaps and old workings that tell of a time when the mine was one of the world’s most important copper producers.
Today Amlwch combines a strong local community and maritime character with tourism focused on coastal walks, wildlife and the mining heritage; the Anglesey Coastal Path runs close by. The town retains its harbour-side feel, small shops and services, and a palpable sense of place rooted in both seafaring and mining histories.
