Map of the UK

Treharris is a compact former coal‑mining village in the steep valleys of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, developed in the 19th century around the Deep Navigation Colliery. Its landscape still shows industrial traces - terraced streets, reclaimed spoil tips and former pit sites - set against the wooded slopes of the valley, and a large public park that provides green space and walking routes linking into the wider valley network.

Today the community mixes working‑class heritage with ongoing regeneration: local clubs, a leisure centre and grassroots cultural activities remain important, while many residents commute to nearby towns and Cardiff. The area is notable for its strong sense of local identity rooted in mining history, and for the visible transition from heavy industry to recreational and community uses.
