Ynysybwl is a small former coal‑mining village in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf in Wales, perched on the steep slopes of the South Wales Valleys above the Cynon Valley. It grew up around late‑19th and early‑20th century collieries, so the industrial heritage is still visible in the built fabric and terraced streets, with open hill and woodland nearby and views across the valley towards Pontypridd.
Today Ynysybwl combines that mining history with a lively community spirit - local sports clubs (notably rugby), brass‑band and other traditions remain important - while many residents commute to larger centres such as Cardiff. The village has seen modest regeneration and benefits from easy access to valley walking country and outdoor recreation on the surrounding slopes.
