Abercynon is a village in the Rhondda Cynon Taf county borough of Wales, sitting where the River Cynon meets the River Taff - its name literally marks that confluence. Located in the lower Cynon Valley, it has regular rail links towards Cardiff and functions as both a local hub and a commuter base while retaining a village atmosphere.
Abercynon grew rapidly in the 19th century with coal mining and the railways that shaped the South Wales valleys, and that industrial heritage is still visible in former workshops, terraced streets and local memorials. Since deindustrialisation the community has focused on regeneration: there are active local clubs, riverside walks along the Taff Trail and grassroots initiatives aimed at celebrating the past while improving facilities and green spaces for residents.
