Cwmavon (often seen as Cwmafan) is a village at the mouth of the Afan Valley in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. It sits beside the River Afan, a short drive from the industrial town of Port Talbot and within easy reach of the wooded trails of Afan Forest Park, which attract walkers and mountain bikers.
Historically the village grew up around 19th‑century ironworks and coal mining and later felt the economic pull of the nearby steel industry; that industrial heritage still shapes the built environment and community identity. Today Cwmavon retains a strong local spirit with clubs, chapels and small shops, and functions as a quiet gateway between the valley and the coast while undergoing gradual regeneration after the post‑industrial decline.
