Pelenna is a small, rural community tucked into a steep, wooded valley in Neath Port Talbot, Wales. The area is centred on the course of the River Pelenna and its tributaries, with narrow lanes, old mining spoil heaps and areas of mixed woodland giving a distinctly scenic, rugged character that is popular with walkers and wildlife enthusiasts and sits close to the broader Afan Valley landscape.
Historically the valley was shaped by 19th- and 20th-century coal and mineral working, and you can still find remnants of that industrial past alongside working farms and a contemporary pattern of people commuting to nearby towns. Socially it’s a small, tight-knit community with village halls and local groups keeping traditions alive, while rural regeneration and outdoor recreation have become increasingly important to the local economy and identity.
