Gilfach Goch is a small village and community in Rhondda Cynon Taf, set in the steep, enclosed valleys that characterise much of South Wales. The local landscape mixes rows of traditional terraced houses and remnants of former industrial sites with wooded slopes and footpaths, making it a quiet spot for local walking and enjoying valley views.
It grew rapidly during the 19th‑century coal boom and still carries a strong mining heritage, visible in former colliery sites and community memory. Since the decline of deep coalworking the area has become largely residential, with local clubs, sports teams and regeneration projects keeping a close‑knit social life and a clear sense of local identity.
