Pentre sits in the bottom of the Rhondda Valley within Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, a linear former coal‑mining settlement shaped by the River Rhondda and the steep valley slopes. It grew rapidly in the 19th century around collieries and still shows Victorian terraces and industrial‑era architecture that speak to that heritage.
Like much of the area it has had to adapt since pit closures, with many residents commuting or working in service and public sectors, but strong local traditions remain: chapels, choirs and a proud rugby culture contribute to a close‑knit community and ongoing regeneration efforts that aim to celebrate the mining past while encouraging new economic opportunities.
