Penllergaer is a village and community on the northern edge of Swansea in south Wales, a short drive from the city centre. It sits against rolling countryside and woodland, close to the restored valley of the nearby Penllergare estate, which is popular for walks and features ornamental ponds, a waterfall and Victorian garden ruins.
Historically the area is linked to the Dillwyn‑Llewelyn family and the pioneering 19th‑century photographer John Dillwyn Llewelyn; the house was lost in the 20th century but the grounds have been rescued and are now managed for conservation and community use. Today Penllergaer is largely residential and commuter‑oriented, with a primary school, small local businesses and active community groups who value its green spaces and wildlife.
