Pontarddulais sits in the north‑west of Swansea, Wales, beside the meeting of the River Dulais and the River Loughor and close to the border with Carmarthenshire. The ward grew up around a river crossing and expanded markedly in the 19th century with the arrival of the railways and nearby tinplate and coal industries, and it still feels like a place shaped by that industrial past amid semi‑rural surroundings and easy road and rail links to the M4 corridor.
Today the area is a mix of residential neighbourhoods, local shops and light industry, with a strong community life - famously including the Pontarddulais male voice choir and an active rugby club - and regular local events and volunteer groups that keep a sense of civic identity. Its riverside setting and proximity to both Swansea and the Gower peninsula mean it combines practical commuter links with access to countryside and coastal leisure.
