Abersychan is a former industrial parish high on the ridge above the Afon Lwyd valley in Torfaen, Wales, sitting within the sweep of the South Wales Valleys. It lies close to Pontypool and not far from the industrial landscape of Blaenavon, so its topography gives a mix of elevated residential streets and steep valley sides with long views across the former coalfield.
The area grew rapidly in the 19th century around coal, iron and related industries, and that industrial past is still visible in terraces, Victorian chapels and pockets of former ironworks. Today Abersychan feels like a small community with a mix of local shops, commuter households and ongoing regeneration efforts, while its proximity to the Blaenavon World Heritage Site and valley walking routes keeps a strong link to its industrial and social history.
