Trevethin is a residential area on the northern edge of Pontypool in the county borough of Torfaen, in south-east Wales. Perched on higher ground above the Usk valley, it has a semi-rural feel with reclaimed quarryland and open spaces that afford views towards the hills of the Brecon Beacons, while remaining close to larger centres such as Cwmbran and Newport.
Historically the community grew with the 19th‑century coal and iron industries and later expanded with mid‑20th‑century housing, so its character mixes older terraces and council-era estates. Like much of the South Wales Valleys, it experienced economic decline after industrial closures and since then has been the focus of local regeneration, with community projects, housing improvements and better transport links making it a practical home for people commuting into Cardiff and nearby towns.
