The area around Pontnewynydd and Snatchwood lies in the valley of the Afon Lwyd within Torfaen, Wales, just north of Pontypool. It mixes traditional terraced streets and post‑war housing estates with pockets of woodland and riverside green space, and is edged by local landmarks such as Pontypool Park and the rolling hills that lead up towards the former mining town of Blaenavon.
Historically the communities grew up around coal, iron and the rail links that powered the South Wales industrial heartland, and that heritage is still visible in the built environment and place names. Today it is largely residential with a strong local community, small shops and clubs, and good commuter connections to places like Cwmbran, Newport and Cardiff, while nearby woods and riverside paths make it attractive for walkers and families.
