Llantwit Major sits on the coast of the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales, overlooking the Bristol Channel and linked to the South Wales Coastal Path. The parish is notable for its compact historic core: narrow medieval streets, the ancient St Illtud's Church‑site that grew from a 6th‑century monastic school, plus Roman-era remains nearby, all of which give the area a strong sense of layered history.
Today the community combines a tourism and heritage economy with farming on the surrounding land and a number of residents who commute to Cardiff. Local life is centred on independent shops, pubs and active community groups, and conservation designations protect much of the town’s character while drawing visitors interested in coastal walks, archaeology and traditional Welsh seaside life.
