Penarth is a compact Victorian seaside town and community in the Vale of Glamorgan, sitting on the south coast a short commute from Cardiff. It’s known for its elegant seafront and pier, a marina, and sweeping views across the Bristol Channel, with dramatic cliffs around Penarth Head and the coastal outcrop at Lavernock Point.
Historically it grew around docks and coal export in the 19th century and nearby Lavernock Point is famed for early Marconi wireless trials to Flat Holm. Today Penarth has a lively café and arts scene, regular community festivals, good schools and attractive parks such as Alexandra Park and Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, making it a popular, relatively affluent commuter town with a strong local identity.
