Ponciau is a village and ward on the southern edge of Wrexham in north‑east Wales, neighbouring communities such as Rhosllanerchrugog and Johnstown. It grew up in the 19th century around coal and ironstone extraction, and that industrial past is still visible in rows of terraced housing and local landmarks.
Former spoil heaps have been softened into pleasant green spaces, most notably Ponciau Banks, which is popular with walkers and families. The area retains a strong community spirit with local clubs, churches and small shops, and its economy now mixes local enterprise with people commuting into Wrexham and the wider region.
