Peasedown St. John is a large village in the district of Bath and North East Somerset, lying on high ground about six miles south‑west of Bath. It occupies a stretch of former coalfield country, so the village sits on elevated ground with good views over the surrounding Somerset countryside and is close to the older mining towns of Radstock and Midsomer Norton.
Historically the settlement expanded in the 19th century with the Somerset Coalfield, and while the pits have long gone it keeps a strong community feel with local shops, a primary school, pubs and sports clubs. Today many residents commute to Bath or Bristol, but the village still features active community groups, regular events and a mixture of older terraced housing and newer estates that reflect its industrial past and suburban present.
