Dunkeswell is a small village and civil parish in East Devon, Devon, England, set on the rural edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The landscape is classic Devon countryside of rolling farmland, hedged lanes and ancient woodland; the village has long historical roots, notably the remains and earthworks of Dunkeswell Abbey, a Cistercian foundation from the early 13th century dissolved in the 16th century.
Locally the economy is largely agricultural with a mix of small businesses, but the village is best known beyond the locality for Dunkeswell Aerodrome, a former wartime airfield that now serves light aircraft, maintenance operations and parachuting, and brings a steady stream of visitors. Community life is quiet and village-centred, with a village hall, pub and seasonal events that reflect a close-knit rural social scene and appeal to walkers, aviation enthusiasts and those interested in local history.
