Anlaby and Anlaby Common sit just west of Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, a settlement with roots stretching back to the medieval and Norse periods and a history reflected in a few surviving older buildings. Originally common land on the edge of the marshes by the Humber Estuary, the area became increasingly suburban in the 19th and 20th centuries and now combines green spaces with residential streets.
Today the parish feels like a commuter village with a mix of housing, local shops, schools and community groups, while pockets of historic architecture such as Anlaby Hall hint at its past. Its close links to Hull mean residents enjoy city amenities and employment opportunities while retaining a quieter, village-like social atmosphere.
