Hedon is a small town and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, lying just a few miles east of Kingston upon Hull on the low-lying land beside the Humber Estuary. It grew as a medieval port and market town and retains a compact historic core with narrow streets and several notable old buildings, reflecting its former importance even though the harbour silted up and maritime trade moved elsewhere.
Today it is largely residential with local shops, light industry and a commuter population working in nearby Hull, while the surrounding landscape is dominated by reclaimed agricultural land and riverine features. The parish features an imposing medieval parish church, a conservation area and an engaged local community organising events and clubs that keep the town’s long history and identity alive.
