Ottringham is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, set on the flat, fertile plains of Holderness a few miles inland from the Humber estuary and the shifting sands of Spurn Point, around 10–12 miles south‑east of Hull. Its low‑lying landscape and proximity to the coast give it a strong connection to saltmarshes, birdlife and the agricultural character of the region.
The community remains largely rural and agricultural, with farms, a village hall and a pub acting as local hubs; its history stretches back to the medieval period and the place‑name reflects Old English roots, while twentieth‑century changes in farming and coastal defence have left visible marks. Ottringham’s quiet lanes and nearby nature reserves attract walkers and birdwatchers, yet the settlement still retains a distinctly local, close‑knit feel.
