Stamford is a compact historic town and civil parish in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire, England, sited on the banks of the River Welland close to the borders with Rutland and Peterborough. Its honey‑coloured oolitic limestone buildings, narrow medieval streets and a wealth of 17th–18th century architecture make its town centre one of the most complete conservation areas in the country.
Originally a medieval market town with links to the wool trade, Stamford now has an economy weighted towards tourism, antiques and independent retail alongside commuter residents, while nearby stately homes such as Burghley House add to the cultural life; the town is also a popular location for film and television and hosts a variety of markets and heritage events.
