Cliffe is a small riverside village in the unitary authority of Medway, England, sitting on the Hoo Peninsula beside the River Thames and backed by the flat salt marshes of the North Kent Marshes. The landscape is defined by reclaimed marsh, gravel workings and shallow pools, giving wide skies and strong birdlife that contrast with the industrial silhouettes on the estuary horizon.
Historically the settlement grew around river industries such as brickmaking and later coastal defences, and its fortunes have often been shaped by wider plans for the Thames estuary. Today Cliffe remains a small community with a keen interest in conservation - the Cliffe Pools area is notable for birdwatching and walking - while being within easy reach of Rochester and other North Kent towns.
