Cliffe Woods is a small village on the Hoo Peninsula in the unitary authority of Medway, north Kent. It sits on the edge of remnant woodland and open farmland, with the low-lying marshes and the River Thames estuary close by; nearby wetland sites such as the Cliffe Pools have become valued spots for birdwatching and walking. The village feels distinctly rural despite being within easy reach of the larger Medway towns.
Historically the local landscape was shaped by clay extraction, brick and cement works on the peninsula, and Cliffe Woods largely grew in the 20th century as housing expanded around the ancient woods. Today it functions as a quiet residential community with local shops, clubs and green routes, retaining close social and service links with neighbouring villages such as Cliffe and Cooling and the urban centres of Rochester and Chatham, while remaining accessible to London for commuters.
