Bentham is a market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, lying close to the border with Lancashire. It comprises High Bentham and Low Bentham, divided by the River Wenning, and sits on the western fringe of the Yorkshire Dales where limestone scenery and walking routes are within easy reach. The town is served by Bentham railway station on the line between Leeds and Morecambe, which gives surprisingly good rail links for a rural place.
Historically Bentham grew around agriculture, small-scale textile mills and local quarries, and today its economy mixes farming, local shops and services, small businesses and commuters. It retains a strong community feel with clubs, annual events and traditional pubs, and its market-town character plus proximity to outdoor attractions makes it popular with walkers and people seeking countryside living.
